MINOR SURGERY

Traditionally the Surgery has maintained an active Minor Surgery programme which has benefit the patients shortening waiting times for procedures that otherwise would have been done at the hospitals.

There are few general aspects that should be taken into considerations

The decision to perform a minor surgery procedure will come from discussion between you and your doctor taking into account whether there is a real need to intervene, your eligibility to undergo procedures under local anaesthesia and your ability to give an informed consent.
The doctor will explain the procedure to you including anaesthetic technique, type of wound, stitches and aftercare.

You are only expected to consent for the procedure once you understand:

a) Why the procedure is needed
b) The type of anesthetic use: check for allergies.
c) Wound aspects:

you should be aware that there is a small chance for the wound to get infected and that might require treatment.

The final cosmetic result cannot be guaranteed as every single patient has a completely different healing process as far as final scar appearance is concerned.

You are expected to follow the instructions to care for the wound and avoid unwanted early openings (dehiscence) which will result in a unwanted cosmetic result and even wound infection.

d) Time for the removal of the stitches (if applicable)
