Welcome to the next issue of our newsletter. There are a few interesting points of information included in this so please read on.
We hope you find these quarterly newsletters useful and informative. We have also devised a Practice Leaflet, available at both surgeries, which is full of relevant information, telephone numbers, surgery opening hours, clinics, who to contact in an emergency etc which we hope you will find constructive. You should also find a surgery time table and a list of nurses clinics in the reception area for your reference. Please feel free to ask for one of these if you can’t find one and we will be happy to provide you with one.
PRESCRIPTION CHARGES
Please be aware, prescriptions charges were increased to £7.10 with effect from 1st April 2008.
In future, the dispensary staff will ask you to provide evidence in support of your exemption to prescription charges. This is in line with requirements from the Primary Care Trust and the NHS Counter Fraud Audit Services will impose penalty charges if anyone is found to be wrongly claiming. Please do not be offended by this request. Thank you.
RECRUITMENT OF NURSE PRACTITIONER
We are happy to announce the arrival of a new member to the nursing team, Jane Macdonald who started working with us week commencing 4 February 2008.
Jane will be consulting and prescribing treatment when appropriate.
She has a Special Interest in Diabetes and will be running these clinics.
Also, she is intending to provide a dedicated Family Planning Clinic in the near future.
Jane is a welcome addition to our practice.
GP REGISTRAR
The new GP Registrar for the next 6 months will be Dr Mba. He will be working alongside Dr Harris.
PATIENT WAITING ROOMS
The books we have for the children in the waiting room are rather old and worn. We would greatly appreciate it if you have any books your children have grown out of, if you would like to donate them to the surgery. Thank you.
Rebecca, a local A level student, was asked if she would do a mural to brighten the waiting room which was relevant to the practice. If you study the artwork closely, you will see that it is actually the workings and processes of a visit to the surgery from beginning to end. A second mural is planned on the adjacent wall which will be a more scenic and tranquil piece of art.
IN RESPONSE TO PATIENT QUESTIONNAIRES:-
1. We have rearranged the seating to account for a new “self arrival screen” which is now in situ. Patients who want to use this will not need to queue to speak to a receptionist, saving you time and enabling those patients with queries to speak to the receptionist without causing a hold up. This self arrival choice will also be available at the Holton-le-Clay Surgery.
2. The glass screen has been removed from reception at North Thoresby. The screen was originally fitted for security reasons due to several break ins we had over a short period and was not installed as a matter of choice. (We now have grills installed at all the windows and doors.) We feel this is an improvement and provides a much more friendly approach.
3. We will no longer be able to make appointments for those patients who arrive at the surgery at 8 o’clock in person. We will make appointments over the counter from 8.15 am onwards. This is to avoid patients not being able to get through on the telephone because we are busy making appointments over the counter and consequently not answering the calls.
PURCHASE OF NEW EQUIPMENT
We would like to say a special thank you for all the donations we receive at the surgery. We are delighted to announce that we have purchased a syringe driver at the request of Mrs Worrell in memory of the late Charles Bogg.
We are also delighted to announce that we have purchased a large oxygen cylinder from a collection of donations we received in 2007 in memory of …
Peter Bell
Gwendoline Sutton
Frank Parker
Ivor Kerridge
Ivy Bushell
your kindness is very much appreciated.
AVAILABILITY OF DRUGS
Co-proxamol has been withdrawn from the British National Formulary and is no longer licensed to be prescribed.
RETIREMENT
Gill Preston who is a valuable member of our nursing team and the practice as a whole has decided to take early retirement.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Gill a very long and happy retirement and don’t forget to visit us from time to time. Best wishes.
DR MASSEY
Dr Massey has taken up a new post with the Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust with effect from January 2008. He is the Chairman of the Professional Executive Committee for the PCT. This new and additional post requires him to be away from the surgery a couple of days a week, consequently, there will not be as many appointments available to consult with him.
